2016-07-25-conradMr. Stephen Smith, Ms. Nancy Conrad, and Mr. Zhu Xiao Di (left to right) On Monday, July 25th, Ms. Nancy Conrad, widow of the late astronaut Charles “Pete” Conrad, Jr., and founder and chairman of the Conrad Foundation, visited the Ameson Foundation’s Washington, D.C. office to discuss the possibility of future cooperation between the two organizations in the field of STEM education. The Conrad Foundation was founded in memory of Ms. Conrad’s late husband., who, in addition to the distinction of being the third person to walk on the moon, worked to find innovative solutions to the world’s toughest problems throughout his careers as a naval aviator, astronaut, and entrepreneur. After his passing, his widow, Ms. Nancy Conrad, established the Conrad Foundation, a “not-for-profit organization dedicated to transforming the current methods of teaching science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in high schools.”

To further the Foundation’s mission, Ms. Conrad, one of the top 100 influencers in STEM education, established the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge, where groups of young adults between the ages of 13 and 18 from around the world develop a new and inventive product and present it to a panel of industry leaders for guidance and assessment. After passing through the second round of the competition, teams are invited to Cape Canaveral, Florida, where they participate in a summit and compete for a range of awards for innovation.

During their meeting, Ameson’s directors discussed the possibility of partnering with the Conrad Foundation to expand the competition’s reach into China and provide opportunities for bright young Chinese students to contribute to the truly global conversation found at the Conrad Spirit of Innovation Challenge Summit. This cooperation would strengthen Ameson’s commitment to STEM education and add to the diversity of participants in the Summit. The Ameson Foundation looks forward to discussions with the Conrad Foundation on future cooperation in the field of international STEM education and exchange.
